Self Branding

For my Identity Package, I started off with a color palette, then made a logo, a button, a note pad, a t-shirt with a pocket, and a business card. I went for the more commercial identity package and branded myself with things that I personally like, that you can wear.

I chose the color purple for creativity, and it's a light purple so it's calming. I just used basic colors like white, black, and grey to compliment it because those colors go with everything.

I used the font cursive standard for the "graphics by" font in my logo which is shown to the right. The "E" in my logo was made by hand in illustrator.

For my button, I used the website www.Zazzle.com. You can create all kinds of cool custom merchandise. I just made a simple button with my logo on it for only $4.00!

For my notepad, I did a simple white one with my logo straight in the center. Then I added a purple border, the same color as my logo. I also did a black border around the top to make my logo stand out more.

I made a long sleeved t-shirt in the color black, to make the white pocket really pop out. Then, I put the logo on top. I thought the shirt was a little boring, so I went into photoshop and added a galaxy pattern.

e-Magine is a time for the e-Communication community to come together as a whole an receive recognition for all the hard work they deserve. It is a glamorous night and lots of fun. I currently attend the Graphic Design portion of e-Communication. End Of The Year Final

History of Free People

Free People is an American bohemian apparel retail company that sells women's clothing, accessories, shoes, intimates, and swimwear. The first store was opened in Philadelphia by Dick Hayne in the 1970's. Free People is a part of Urban Outfitters Inc. and is sold all over the world. It started off very successful and the second store was named Urban Outfitters. Free People grew rapidly. They ultimately decided to name it Free People and made it it's own line. By the 2000's Free People had 81 boutiques spread around the U.S and 2 in Canada, and over 1000 specialty stores. "Free People is a specialty clothing brand featuring the latest trends and vintage collections for women who live free through fashion, art, music and travel."

The Blog

Free People also runs a huge blog that was started in 2006. It is not only made to support the store, but the lifestyle and culture it promotes. On the blog, you can find eight different sections that are bound to fit you just right.

  1. Fashion- trends, dressing for the weather, and fitting the 5 different customer types
  2. Music-  concerts, music festivals, and find new up and coming bands
  3. Beauty- natural beautifying techniques, hair styles, make up trends and product reviews
  4. Food- recipes for natural, healthy cooking
  5. DIY- ideas of crafts, homemade decor, and even pretty gift wrapping techniques
  6. Decor- the homes, offices, and closets of people on the Free People team and people who relate to the brand
  7. Inspiration- tips on how to live a happy, balanced, and healthy life
  8. FP Me- offers customers a chance to showcase their own personal style by creating a profile and posting pictures of how they wear and match Free People products
The Logo

The Free People logo represents the brand in such a simplistic and whimsical way. The font is hand written in cursive and transferred onto the computer. You can tell it is hand written by how every "e" is slightly different.  It is literally one of a kind. The logo gives off the 'free' part of Free People in the way it is so loosely written.  At first, they tried out lots of different fancier logos, but ended up with the simple one.

Job Opportunities

Free People can be found on any social media site, so of course there are lots of Graphic Design job opportunities. They like to maintain the same hippie-bohemian style through out their work, that you can see on their websites and in their look books. When applying for a job at Free People, they look for previous leadership roles, extracurricular activities, internship experience, relevant job experience, blogs/ relevant samples of work, and most importantly, fashion experience.

Design Challenge 2015

For this project we were supposed to choose a design trend and replicate it in work we would need done in the real world. I decided to base my project off of the 2015 Oscars movie posters made from stock images.

I used the three movie posters above as my inspirations. They all three use more than one image and contrasting text in a patterned manner. For the wizard of Oz, they used the text over the lines of each image. For Theory of Everything, they used a different type of text over each portion of the collage to give a mix and match feel but still letting it flow. For Submarine, they only used two photographs, but they did a pattern out of the text. For my project I tried to do a photo collage mixed with text that contrasts off the images really well. I also used a black shadow effect with the box around the type. Then I added in the company phone number for more info as a movie poster would.

History of Art

History of Street Art (Banksy)
On his way to becoming an international icon, the subversive and secretive street artist Banksy  turned the art world upside-down.

Banksy is a British artist—graffiti master, painter, activist, filmmaker and all-purpose provocateur—made it on the list of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2010. He supplied a picture of himself with a paper bag (recyclable, naturally) over his head. Most of his fans don’t really want to know who he is. But they do want to follow his graffiti art—or, bombing” some might call his work—walls in Bristol, England, during the 1990s to the artist whose work commands hundreds of thousands of dollars in the auction houses of Britain and America. Today, he has “bombed” cities from Vienna to San Francisco, Barcelona to Paris and Detroit. And he has moved from graffiti on gritty urban walls to paint on canvas, conceptual sculpture and even film, which was nominated for an Academy Award.
Graffiti art’s modern history came from low origins. World War II seems to be the starting point of graffiti art.
The word graffiti actually came from the Italian word ‘graffio’, which means ‘scratch’. It is interesting to know that graffiti has been around since the dawn of human civilization, when the prehistoric man learned how to make colored powder and created images. Ancient cavemen scrawled and painted images on the cave walls. Romans wrote on the walls of the buildings of their conquered cities. Ancient cities such as Pompeii has revealed graffiti, election slogans, and even obscene drawings. Graffiti was a popular propaganda medium during the World War II, both from the Nazis and anti-Nazi groups.
Today, graffiti art is now a respected and new art form, a rich medium with no restrictions and plenty of freedom to work with.
Shepard Fairey (of Obey) and Banksy are both very popular street artists. They have  very similar art styles.  They are two undeniably influential urban talents, both with careers firmly rooted in outdoor art, both active for about the same periods of time, yet the makeup of the current markets for their respective work could not be more different.
The images below are (top) my interpretation from the Obey project (bottom) done by Shepard Fairey.

•Then I did a polynomial project of an elephant head. I used different shades of grays and shapes to create a 3D looking image. Then, I combined the sun rays and the polynomial elephant to complete my project and give it a different touch, other than Banksy's and Shepard Fairey's but still keeping the look.
